On the Runway

This was certainly a unique fashion showing. College step dancers in a fashion presentation. What do you think? And be sure to check out the fashion review (click here for the link).

Dsquared2 Men Fall/Winter 2013-14 | Milan Men's Fashion Week | FashionTV

This is the first all (or mostly) Black male model casting for a fashion show, by a major designer, that I have ever seen! Loved it. Especially enjoyed the runway faux nightclub setting, complete with "musicians" and patrons. And the finale was so cute, with the shirt-tossing.

Guava Duff / Guava Cake

Bread Pudding
Guava duff and bread pudding have similar textures

Guava cake - just add the sauce

While vacationing in Nassau, Bahamas in June-July, had the best dessert in the world. It's called guava duff and also guava cake. Check out the recipes online. It is so good. The "secret" is in the sauce. But the cake is good even without the sauce, tastes much like carrot cake or strawberry cake. The duff is kinda like a bread pudding and is not that great on its own (without the sauce).

I think these desserts are served at most restaurants in Nassau (either the cake or the duff). My favorite "to die for" dessert was the guava cake/sauce at Traveller's Rest restaurant/bar. And the guava duff at Twin Brothers restaurant (in the Fish Fry restaurants area).

These desserts should be fairly easy to make yourself. Try it, I plan to. Yum! More on my Nassau trip later.

And check out this link to a video clip showing the Twin Brothers restaurant (Fish Fry location) where we dined several times while on vacation in Nassau, great food. Our table was just behind the man with the bottled drink in the video, on the porch, just outside the main entry, where the yellow wall is. We had a table to the right of the entry door, right in front of the big white-framed window. And people-watching was an easy past-time while we ate. Twin Brothers was a fun, lively place.

Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel
Rocking chair view on front porch at Cracker Barrel restaurant

Chocolate cake goodness
The chocolate cake at Cracker Barrel was warm and good
I recently dined with Mom and friend at a local Cracker Barrel restaurant. It was a down-home, lip-smacking feast! We collectively had both fried and spicy grilled catfish, biscuits, corn muffins, mashed potatoes, corn, tossed garden salad with ranch dressing, turnip greens, a baked potato, and buttermilk.

For dessert we treated ourselves to blackberry cobbler with blackberry cobbler ice cream and warm, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate cake with sugar-free vanilla ice cream. Such gooey good cake and the best berry ice cream ever!

FYI this was my ONLY meal of the day, so I basically inhaled it! And washed it all down with H20, about the only thing on the table NOT full of calories! I love to dine at Cracker Barrel and always feel like I'm on vacation whenever I'm there. It has that comfy, cozy feel to it. Ah!

Catalina Island

Taco Salad 1 Catalina Island Day Trip Catalina Island Day Trip A few years ago my brother hosted a wonderful cruise to Catalina Island while we were visiting him. My first and only time there so far. It was beautiful and fun, fun, fun. Got just a little sea sick (dizzy) while en route, on the cruiser. But it was well worth a few shaky moments.

We lunched at a nice open-air Mexican food restaurant, did some window shopping, and took a golf-cart tour of the island. Had a fabulous time. Hope to return one day and stay a few nights.

Soul Food

I've been to Georgia Brown's in Washington DC. Very nice and good food too. For those on the east coast, what are your favorites in the DC area and beyond?

On the Runway

Here's a nice runway show video. Black designer Kevan Hall's designs. Check it out. I like.
